Notification of Absences

A student or resident who will be absent for all or part of an instructional day must notify the Office of Academic Affairs at dentalabsence@pacific.edu in advance of the absence or by 9:00 am on the day of the absence. Absences must be communicated daily. In the event of an emergency, the student or resident must notify Academic Affairs as soon as reasonably possible. The Office of Academic Affairs will notify faculty promptly of the student's or resident's absence and will maintain a log of absences. The log will be circulated quarterly, or upon request, to course directors, program directors, and chairs. Please read the attendance policy here.

Notification Options
  1. Submit an email in advance or by 9:00 am.
  2. Call 415.929.6437 and press 1.
  3. Only emails from a dental school email account are acceptable. Email dentalabsence@pacific.edu.

All students reporting an absence should provide the following information:

  • Name and student ID number (3-digit number on class roster, if leaving a voicemail message)
  • DDS or IDS and class year
  • Date(s) and times of absence and date and time of return; half days for events and appointments only

Second- and third-year students:

  • You should also provide the name of your GPL and indicate whether patients have been notified of your absence and whether you have a block or rotation on the day of your absence.
